Carrick seeks long-term commitment amidst pressure ahead of Atlético test

Michael Carrick believes the current pressure is providing clarity on which of his players want to be at the club for the long term, as United prepare for a crucial Champions League away fixture against Atlético Madrid. The manager's comments come as the team faces a challenging period, having endured its worst league start since the 1986-87 season.

• Manager Michael Carrick confirmed Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo have not travelled to Madrid for the Champions League fixture due to issues picked up in the recent Spurs match.
• The team's defensive pressing has drawn scrutiny, with a viral clip circulating showing Tottenham bypassing six United players with a single pass at Old Trafford.
• Carrick, facing pressure after two wins in eight games, remains confident in his squad and has publicly backed captain Bruno Fernandes to rediscover his best form.
• Ahead of the Champions League Round of 16 match, Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone described United as a "very good team" despite their current form.
